Be fit for free

Who says you need to buy a yearly/monthly gym membership to be fit?

Gym subscriptions are very expensive and mostly go a waste as people can’t keep up with fitness due to their busy work-life schedule. There are alternatives to work out for free of cost as mentioned earlier. There’s no gym membership required if working out in front of people doesn’t appeal to you or if your cash flow is low. Believe me, doing your daily workouts at home, having the flexibility to work out at your own pace can be fun.

The good news is that you don’t necessarily need to be fit by going to the gym. Outdoor activities such as running, cycling and home workouts are enough to keep you fit. Talking about home workouts, there are plenty of fitness applications and social media apps which can help you achieve your fitness goals (check out the previous post). In my opinion, there is no need to invest hugely inexpensive fitness equipment’s. I usually use resistant bands, a skipping rope, and light weights to work on my core which is basic but sufficient. Most importantly, don’t forget to follow your healthy diet and nutritional plans to be a pro in fitness. Social media is bombarded with all the healthy diet plans which you can follow on a weekly basis at no cost. Remember the quote “Abs are made in the kitchen and not the gym”. So why not just do it all at home, and WOW for free! Imagine, you could save your gym membership money for a sun holiday! Also, you have the access to hundreds and thousands of videos and links to the related exercise plans which you cannot go wrong on.  Off course this will require internet access, but who doesn’t have internet these days? If you don’t have Internet, then there are always the local services e.g. library, where you can gain a lot of information.

Then let’s go rock n’ roll and BE FIT FOR FREE!!!

Pros and Cons of using Social media for Health and Fitness

Social media technology is becoming progressively popular and delivering numerous benefits along the way. One aspect of our lives which has been influenced by social media is health and fitness. We have endless stream of information to all sorts of data, fitness ideas, workout demos, new exercises and nutritional plans without paying a penny for most sources.

Back in the days, you had to buy fitness magazines to learn about the healthier recipes and workout plans. Nowadays, with all sorts of social media apps and websites available, you can easily enjoy a healthy and perfect lifestyle without going the extra mile. We can also track our diet and exercise to determine optimal calorie intake by using health apps such as MyFitnessPal or any other website which combine social media. Personally, I love this app as it gives me the access to all blogs, food recipes, product reviews, workout plans and instant answers to my questions without paying the extra premium. This is a huge benefit to me and others who are not willing to purchase expensive calorie tracking devices such as fit bits. Sometimes, we go through a rough day at work and are not able to head to the gym after work. There’s a solution to that! There’s plenty of videos on cardio and core workouts on YouTube and Instagram all which saves you time and money with no membership required. Businesses and entrepreneurs also benefit from social media in promoting and advertising health and fitness for brand development, attracting customers and networking such as Nike campaigns and fitness models. One of the most popular fitness model I know of is Kayla Itsines who is a trainer, author and a well-known entrepreneur. She’s one of the 30 most influential people on the internet today with over thousands of followers famous for her bikini body guide (bbg). Want to heal and nourish your inner and outer self?

There are also the downsides of using social media for fitness that you should be aware of. Not all information you access on the internet is true. Social platforms usually have before and after photographs of losing weight and they offer different types of products to help you achieve your goals faster in no time. However, you must do your research before purchasing any kind of fitness product and not blindly trusting the source. There are unsafe workouts, detoxes, diet plans which spread on social media and go viral in no time. Some people trust those posts and videos not realizing the consequences behind them. Our generation today, especially teenager girls are influenced by others to look good and healthy. Following celebrities or healthy bodies on social media platforms doesn’t necessarily mean that they are fit. They might be underweighted which could lead to problems such as eating disorders or anorexia. Some people also rely on pills and weight loss supplements and not eating which can also be dangerous. I usually never take any supplements as part of my workout. I believe doing it the natural way is the most logical way!

Social Media may keep you fit

When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you do? Everyone can guess at this stage! Whether it be gulping down your juice, having a cup of coffee, reading the newspaper but the odds are you most likely checked your mobile for texts or notification of your recent post on Facebook or Instagram from the previous night. Correct? Yes, for most people this is the case and even I would count myself as one of them. From what I have learned in college, is that over the last few years the web has drastically shifted towards user-driven technologies such as social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, twitter), blogs, and video sharing platforms such as YouTube.

  • Social media is the number 1 online activity worldwide
  • 1 billion pieces of content are shared daily on Facebook
  • 1 out of 6 couples married last year met on a social media site. Interesting!!

The younger generation specifically is creating a change and the use of social media for making a difference. One of the key tools of social media is that it can be highly utilized for education/knowledge particularly if you are keen on health and fitness. I believe social media is a great source for networking and education. In today’s generation, the trend of fitness addicts all over social media is a huge craze. Talking about fitness, people around the globe are actively posting pictures/videos/blogs of their daily workout and healthy eating plans. It’s all about the fitness sensation and the ability to motivate, inspire and connect with people across the world through social media. In my opinion, as being one of the Instagram users, this platform has brought celebrities and recognized fitness trainers for example (Kayla Itsines) closer to their fans as they constantly share their fitness regimes and tips aiming to make you healthy, fit and confident. If you’re wondering which social site to opt out for, Instagram and Facebook for me would be the most powerful tools to gain insight into healthy food and workout tips. There are several trainers/celebs who provide free recipes, free advice, and products online which you can purchase if required. So why not benefit?

However, be wise which fitness page you follow as not all information provided online can be true(I’ll get to that later).
